
The National Weather Service has upped snow fall predictions for small patches of the Shore. In its 9:00 AM update, they predict certain areas from Melfa to Machipongo could receive 4-6 inches of snow. The rest of the Eastern Shore should see 3-4 inches. Snowfall rates are expected to peak between 11 pm and 6 am. A Winter Weather Warning is in effect.




Snow quickly tapers off from west to east Saturday morning.
Chris Isdell with VDOT said beginning Friday night local VDOT crews will be working around the clock to clear road ways until they are no longer needed.
Following the snowfall, temperatures plummet once again into the teens and low 20s Saturday night with highs Sunday in the mid to upper 30s. Lows in the teens again Sunday night. Melting and refreezing is expected into early next week.
The Virginia State Police is urging residents to be safe with the pending winter weather. Virginia State Police will have all available troopers and supervisors working in advance of, and for the duration of the storm. To prevent unnecessary traffic crashes from occurring, state police advise motorist to postpone travel plans and avoid driving until weather conditions improve.
If motorist must travel during the storm, drivers are reminded to do the following:
- Don’t leave home without an emergency kit, to include; a window scraper, blanket, bottled water, non-perishable snacks, cell phone charger and a flashlight.
- Use headlights. Increasing your visibility.
- Slow your speed. Drive for existing weather conditions.
- Don’t tailgate. Allow a safe stopping distance on slick road surfaces.
- Buckle Up. Arrive alive!
- Put the phone down. Drive distraction free.
- Check Your Vehicle. Ensure your vehicle is in good working order for the conditions. Fill up the tank in advance. Check windshield wipers, windshield wiper fluid, tire tread, battery life, etc.
