A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Accomack and Northampton counties. The heaviest snowfall is forecasted for this evening, with rates reaching 1 to 2 inches per hour, leading to rapidly deteriorating travel conditions. An additional 0.5 to 1 inch of snow is expected Thursday morning into early afternoon, further complicating cleanup efforts.
Travel in Accomack and Northampton counties is expected to be extremely hazardous, especially during the evening commute today and Thursday morning. Residents are strongly urged to avoid non-essential travel as snow-covered roads and low visibility will make driving dangerous. Temperatures will remain in the 20s, promoting rapid snow accumulation, with lows dropping into the teens Thursday night. Wind chills are expected to fall into the single digits, increasing the risk of frostbite for anyone exposed to the cold for extended periods.
Marine conditions will also be impacted, with a Small Craft Advisory in effect. North winds are expected to gust between 20 to 25 knots tonight into Thursday, creating rough seas and hazardous conditions for boaters. By Thursday evening into early Friday morning, northwest gales are forecasted along with freezing spray, further complicating marine operations.
