NWS issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northampton

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 4:23 PM EST, as storms with 60 mph wind gusts moved northeast at 60 mph across Northampton County.

Radar detected the storm system stretching from Willis Wharf to nine miles south of Cape Charles, with the potential to cause damage to trees and power lines. The impacted areas include Capeville, Birdsnest, Kiptopeke State Park, Jamesville, Eastville, Machipongo, Wardtown, Franktown, Simpkins, and Townsend.

Residents in the affected region are urged to seek shelter indoors immediately. The National Weather Service advises moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection from high winds and potential flying debris.

Local authorities will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as the storm moves through the area. Residents should stay alert for further warnings and be prepared for possible power outages.
