The Northampton County Board of Supervisors approved a QUEST Program for their school system at Tuesday night’s regular monthly Board meeting.
According to County Administrator Charlie Kolakowski, the QUEST Program is for students with disciplinary issues. Students in this program will get more intense supervision and will be removed from regular instruction so as not to be disruptive.
According to School Superintendent Dr. Lisa Martin, the program is funded by a grant from the Virginia Department of Education and matching funds from the County school’s at risk funds. This proposal is for adoption for three years. In response to a question from Supervisor Dixon Leatherbury, Dr. Martin said the success of the program is measured in part by SOL scores, graduation rates, attendance, and the number of repeat offenders. The program will be for students between 7th and 12th grade. Martin also said under this program, students who receive three days or more of suspension will be sent to the QUEST rooms to serve that punishment.
The program will be administered in five classrooms in the former Northampton Middle School.
