In 2017 alone, the Eastern Shore of Virginia Boys and Girls club provided more than 34,000 hours of tutoring and homework help and almost 38,000 meals and snacks to nearly 250 families.
It’s a committment that the Northampton County Board of Supervisors honored on Tuesday, Feb. 12 when it designated April 25 as Boys and Girls Club Day.
“I’m an old man now, but I remember homework,” said Board Chairman Spencer Murray to 10 Boys and Girls Club members who attended the meeting with Director Kathy Custis and board member Bill Payne.
Thank you for everything you do in the county,” said Murray.
The Eastern Shore unit opened in 2003 and operates after school and during the summer at Occohannock Elementary School in Exmore.
A proclamation from the county said the club provides “unparalleled service” in everything from education to leadership.
