Northampton County Public Schools is celebrating a banner year of progress, earning three top statewide rankings for one-year improvement in student outcomes, according to a recent analysis of Virginia data. NCPS ranked first in the Commonwealth for math improvement and fourth for reading improvement among students in grades 3–8. The division also placed fifth statewide for reducing chronic absenteeism across grades K–12.
“This is an incredible moment for our schools and our community,” Superintendent Dr. Lisa Martin said. “Our top rankings for the one-year improvement in math, reading, and chronic absenteeism are not just statistics; they represent tangible progress for our students and validation of the tireless efforts of our teachers and staff. We are celebrating this milestone and are committed to building on this momentum, with the continued support and involvement of our community.”
Division leaders attribute the gains to a comprehensive approach that pairs data-driven instruction with student support and family partnerships. The strategy aims to lift academic performance while tackling barriers to attendance and engagement.
Officials said the results highlight systemwide progress, with improvements visible across schools and grade levels. “Congratulations, NCPS students, families, and teachers,” the district announcement added. “Your hard work, dedication, and support have been instrumental in our division’s success. This achievement is a testament to our collective efforts, and we should all take pride in this significant milestone.”
