It’s been a long time coming, but the renovation of the Northampton Middle and High School in Eastville is officially underway.

Construction crews with M.B.Kahn Construction Company showed up last week to begin the process of site work for the $81 million dollar project.

The comprehensive renovation plan includes upgrades to existing infrastructure as well as the construction of new facilities designed to meet the evolving needs of our educational community. These enhancements are aimed at creating modern, innovative, and conducive learning spaces for fostering academic excellence and student collaboration.

According to officials with Northampton County Public Schools, the initial construction phase is outside of the building and will not disrupt classroom learning, but there are changes to be aware of.

Some entrances have changed, and it is essential for everyone to be mindful of updated signage around the schools. Information on these new procedures will be provided at the upcoming Open Houses on August 22, from 2-6 p.m.

During this first phase of construction, the existing bus loop and a portion of the parking lot are being used as a construction staging area. The main entrance point for visitors and car riders has been relocated to the back of the school, which is accessed via a new walking path. In addition, our buses will drop off and pick up our students using a temporary bus loop circling the back of the school.

As construction progresses, some access points to both schools will be further adjusted. These changes are necessary to ensure the safety of everyone on campus and to facilitate the construction process. The layout may differ from what students and families are used to. To maintain a safe environment, we ask that everyone remains vigilant and follows the marked pathways and directions indicated by school staff and signs. Safety is a community effort, and we are dedicated to making the transition during construction as seamless as possible for everyone involved.

“Our commitment to school safety is unwavering,” said the system in a press release. “We work closely with our contractors to minimize disruptions and ensure all safety standards are met. Students and families should be prepared for slight changes in daily routines as we work toward building better facilities, but rest assured, safety is our top priority.”
