Northampton County Administrator Matt Spuck to the Board of Supervisors reported Tuesday night a potential delay in a major school construction project after learning the timeline could be pushed back by as much as 90 days.
Spuck said the possible delay appears to be related to the process used by ANEC to secure electrical service for the project. He reported that both scheduling and costs are critical concerns for the county.
“We’re going to do a prompt, thorough review to understand what happened, what it means for the project, and how to prevent avoidable delays in the future,” Spuck told the board. He said more specific information will be shared once the review is complete.
Supervisor Oliver Bennett requested updated financial details. School Finance Director Brooke Thomas said the project’s total budget remains unchanged at $91,182,676. To date, about $377,000 in approved change orders have been issued, with additional changes under review. Approximately $40,000,000 of the overall budget has been spent.
Spuck stressed that the delay is still considered potential at this stage and that no final determination has been made.
