Northampton High School’s Robotics Team celebrates FIRST Signing Day

Northampton High School’s robotics team, Team 1908 The ShoreBots, celebrated the accomplishments of its graduating seniors during FIRST Signing Day on May 19 in the school’s Media Center.

FIRST Signing Day, held annually on the third Tuesday in May, recognizes graduating high school students around the world and celebrates their plans after graduation. The event was created by FIRST, the international youth robotics organization, to honor students in much the same way athletes are recognized when they commit to collegiate programs.

This year, Team 1908 honored four graduating seniors who plan to continue their involvement in robotics and engineering at the college level.

Abigail Zodun, team captain, will attend the University of Virginia and study engineering. Co-captain Grayson Brown will pursue an engineering degree at the University of Michigan. Reid Travis will attend Old Dominion University to study engineering, while Temperance Stamer will continue in the field at Rochester Institute of Technology.

According to the team, all four students have been accepted into engineering programs and plan to build on the skills they developed through their participation in competitive robotics.

Team 1908 The ShoreBots have earned national recognition in recent years through their success in FIRST Robotics competitions, including qualifying for the FIRST World Championship. The Signing Day ceremony highlighted the team’s emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and celebrated the next chapter for its graduating seniors.
