A several-hour search early Thursday was called off and determined to be “unfounded” after a 911 call reporting that a person or people were stuck in a freezer abruptly disconnected. Dispatchers were able to ping the call to the Willow Oak Road area, but the caller referenced “Berry Road,” a location that does not appear on any local map.
Emergency crews checked multiple nearby businesses with walk-in freezers, including a funeral home, restaurants, and the Eastern Shore Regional Jail. When no leads were found, first responders went door to door in an effort to locate anyone who might be in danger.
No individuals were located, and the search was ultimately suspended. However, officials are urging business owners in the area to check their freezers out of an abundance of caution.
