(CAPE CHARLES, VIRGINIA) – The Historic Preservation Committee of the Northampton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) participated in the National DAR Day of Service on October 11, 2023 with a cemetery preservation and restoration project at the cemetery in Bay Creek on King’s Creek in Cape Charles, Virginia. After getting approval from the owner of the private property, Claiborne Dickinson and Page Beary led the Committee in cleaning the historic tombstones of Patriot John Stratton and family, William Burton and his wife, and a Wescoat. The team used DAR approved conservation treatment that will clean, but not damage the stones.
Other Northampton Chapter DAR members who participated included Julie Badger, Kit Warren, Jenny Richardson, Ginger Johnson, Susan Robinson, and Ginny White. The DAR was joined by special guest, Dr. David Scott, noted and respected Northampton County historian, who gave a presentation on John Stratton.
