Northampton County has announced the appointment of Ellen Bowyer as its new County Attorney, effective April 28, 2025.
Bowyer brings extensive legal and public service experience to the role. She currently serves as Senior Assistant County Attorney for Hanover County, a position she has held since March 2021. Prior to that, she was a Staff Attorney with the Virginia Access to Justice Commission from 2017 to 2021 and previously served as County Attorney for Amherst County from 2010 to 2017.
She holds a Master’s degree in Urban Affairs from Virginia Tech and earned her law degree from William & Mary School of Law, graduating in the top 25 percent of her class.
In a statement, Board of Supervisors Chairman John Coker welcomed Bowyer to the county, saying, “The Northampton County Board of Supervisors is happy to announce that Ellen Bowyer will be the next County Attorney starting April 28. She will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position, and we welcome her to the staff and the Northampton County community.”
