Northampton County will be joining Accomack to request cost of competing adjustment(COCA) funds from Governor Ralph Northam.
The funds are designed to help bolster teacher’s salaries in the rural areas of Virginia near the Maryland line, where teachers are often lured away to our neighbor from the north. The state’s higher taxes translate to higher teacher salaries and benefits, which makes the often hour long commute for many of them tolerable.
The motion was made by Supervisor Robert Duer, seconded by John Coker and was unanimously approved.
