Bells Across America is an annual celebration of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Participants gather to ring bells, much as the church bells of Philadelphia rang out when the U.S. Constitution was first signed at 4:00 pm on September 17, 1787.
Members of the Northampton County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution accompanied by the Battle of the Barges Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution celebrated on the steps of the historic 1731 Courthouse on the Eastville Courthouse Green on September 17. Regent Valerie Dunkle read a Northampton County Proclamation acknowledging Constitution Day and Constitution Week as prepared by the Board of Supervisors Chairwoman, Betsy Mapp.
Following the bell ringing, members of the NSDAR and NSCAR were treated to a tour of the Northampton Historic Preservation Society Museum in the 1899 Courthouse by Eastville Mayor, James Sturgis.
