There was trouble appointing another attorney on Thursday in Accomack Circuit Court for a murder suspect after the initial lawyer said he had to back out due to a conflict in the case that has four defendants.
The criminal clerk called out names from a list of lawyers who accept criminal appointments from the judge, and no one was eligible to represent 27-year-old Kyrig Nygee Weathers, a construction worker from Parksley. The others were either already representing another of the suspects or had done so in the past.
Weathers, who is being held without bond, indicated that he intends to hire a Norfolk criminal attorney, but has not yet done so.
The victim was 27-year-old Rashaun Anthony Brown Jr., who was shot to death on Feb. 13, 2024, on Stumpy Lane, near Onley’s Lankford Highway shopping areas. The other suspects are Tyvon Lyncurtis Smith, Christopher Clovis-Weathers Monfiston, and Taquan Lee Bell.
Kyrig Weathers is being held on indictments that allege he committed murder, use of a firearm in a murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
