New addition to Food Bank Facility in Tasley now in planning stages

The Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore is hoping to construct a new facility on the property in Tasley.   

Stephanie Cuffee from the Food Bank says the project ,which is in the early planning stages, would have a significant impact on the community. Cuffee says that the Food Bank is working with the Department of Housing and Community Development in Accomack County to secure a planning grant which will be crucial to building a new facility next to the original building.

Cuffee says that there are over 6000 individuals on the Eastern Shore who are considered to be food insecure.  The new building, which will be approximately 5000 square feet, will house a climate controlled warehouse, office space, a volunteer welcome space, more efficient distribution space, and additional food storage and additional food storage and production areas.
