
Rocket Lab Corporation has announced that the Neutron launch vehicle’s “Hungry Hippo” captive fairing has successfully completed qualification testing and is on its way to Virginia for its first launch.
This innovative fairing remains attached to the rocket’s first stage throughout launch and landing, a first for reusable commercial rockets, allowing for cost-effective reuse. The Neutron rocket, capable of lifting up to 13,000 kg, is designed for rapid and efficient operations, catering to various missions including commercial and national security.
Rocket Lab’s Vice President, Shaun D’Mello, highlighted the significant milestone achieved with the fairing’s qualification, showcasing the swift development timeline since 2021.
As Hungry Hippo heads to Rocket Lab’s Launch Complex 3, further pre-launch testing will be conducted ahead of the scheduled first launch in 2026.
