NCPS After School Program making great strides

Northampton County Public Schools (NCPS) is excited to announce the successful launch of its 21st Century Community Learning Center After-School Program, benefiting students at Kiptopeke and Occohannock Elementary Schools. Funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant, the program has quickly become a dynamic space for enrichment, creativity, and learning for K-6 students in the community.

The program offers a wide variety of activities, including instructional enrichment, art, health awareness, and thematic learning under the theme “Life on the Eastern Shore.” Led by NCPS teachers and YMCA-trained instructors, students are developing valuable skills such as literacy, teamwork, and problem-solving. The program also emphasizes career exploration, character building, and social-emotional development, laying the foundation for future success.

In addition to student enrichment, NCPS is focusing on family engagement as a key component of the program. Upcoming events will offer parents and guardians opportunities to get involved in their children’s learning journey, strengthening community ties and providing valuable insights into supporting their child’s education.

The program is free for participating families, thanks to the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. Serving approximately 98 students per school, the initiative brings together dedicated educators, YMCA instructors, and community partners to inspire and mentor students.
