National Weather Service warning of gale force marine conditions

The National Weather Service warns of a strong front creating gale force conditions and has released a Gale warning from 4 p.m. this afternoon through 1 a.m. for much of the waters of Sector Virginia.

West North-West Winds are expected to increase to over 30 kts and product 3-5 ft seas resulting in hazardous marine conditions for much of the southern Chesapeake Bay and adjoining Rivers.

Mariners should consider altering plans to avoid possible hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure vessels using extra anchors or mooring lines in anticipation of severe wind and waves.

Mariners are advised to monitor the latest forecasts as conditions and forecasts may change.
