The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued an areal flood watch for Accomack and Northampton County, as well as several other counties in eastern Virginia, northern North Carolina and Southern Maryland. Maryland Counties under the areal flood watch are Dorchester, inland Worcester somerset and Wicomico. The watch is in effect from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Thursday.
Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall is expected Thursday. Another one to two inches of rain will fall on already saturated grounds from Tuesdays rainfall.
The runoff from the rainfall could produce minor flooding, particularly in low lying and poor drainage areas as well as near creeks, streams, and ditches. Street flooding is likely.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
