Both the airspace and sea lanes off the coast of Wallops Island were closed Friday evening in preparation for a potential sub-orbital spacecraft launch from the Wallops Flight Facility. According to NASA, the launch attempt was scheduled for that evening.
After the launch, NASA issued the following statement: “According to the FAA, airspace in portions of the Mid-Atlantic was closed tonight to allow for ‘space operations.’”
“The mission launched on December 13 at 8:00 PM and is complete.” However, there are no photographs or videos from the launch, as the visitor center was closed to both the public and the media, and no livestream was available.
NASA and the U.S. government have not provided any further comments on the secretive launch.
