More Northampton indictments

Indictments that allege grand theft, burglary, illegal drug distribution, eluding police, and felony DUI were handed down by a Northampton Grand Jury earlier this week.

Twenty-year-old Daysha Renee Adkins, of Roosevelt Avenue in Exmore, was indicted on counts of possession with intent to distribute 70 capsules of fentanyl and possession of a firearm while in possession of a Schedule I or II drug on May 25. The pills also contained tramadol, an opioid used to treat moderate to severe pain, and xylazine, a sedative and muscle relaxant meant for livestock.

Court records showed Adkins was also charged with misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm, shooting in a public place without injury, brandishing a gun, and shooting a weapon across a road.

Thirty-two-year-old Shauwntay Danielle Williams, of Mill Run Lane in Belle Haven, was accused of shattering the front window at the New York, New York store in Exmore, stealing cash and merchandise, wearing a mask and a hoodie to conceal her identity, and destruction of property on July 9.

Twenty-two-year-old Stanley Fritz Laporte, of Main Street in Melfa, was indicted on a count of receiving or buying a stolen 2020 Honda sedan valued at $1,000 or more on Oct. 31. Laporte was stopped after allegedly failing to dim his high beams even though traffic was oncoming. Laporte told police that he bought the vehicle on Facebook for $2,000. When an officer ran the vehicle identification number, it came back as stolen, records disclosed.

“I had purchased the car for my baby’s mama, and let the car stay at her house for a little bit because I couldn’t register and was not licensed at the time,” the man told a magistrate. When he got his license, “I had the plates lying around the house, and I put them on, so we got in the car to go trick or treating,” he continued.

Forty-year-old Shamar Latrell Beverly, of Rochester, N.Y., was indicted on a June 24 count of possession with intent to distribute between an ounce and five pounds of marijuana. After allegedly going through the North Plaza of the bridge-tunnel police without paying the toll, he was stopped.

Eight baggies of marijuana flower, a small digital scale with marijuana residue, 58 small baggies of THC-infused gummies or about 5.95 pounds, and 14 jars believed to contain THC sugar totaling about 5.43 pounds were confiscated after an officer smelled the drug.

Forty-nine-year-old Jose A. Ortiz Alvarado, of Trailer Circle in Cape Charles, was indicted on counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana on Sept 27. After being stopped by police for allegedly going 73 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone, nearly 26 grams of cocaine, about 235 grams of marijuana, and more than 4.5 grams of methamphetamine were confiscated from his vehicle.

Twenty-five-year-old Ali Mohamed Sanoh, of The Bronx, N.Y., was indicted on a Sept. 5 count of eluding police. He was also charged with driving 75 mph in a 45-mph zone, driving 137 mph in a 55-mph zone, driving 92 mph in a 55-mph zone, and driving without a license.

Twenty-three-year-old John Anthony Baker, of Sparrows Point, Md., was indicted on counts of eluding police and hit and run with property damage of $1,000 or more on June 14.

     Fifty-eight-year-old Raymond J. Smith Jr., of Culls Drive in Cheriton, was indicted on a third offense of DWI in 10 years. The alleged crime occurred on July 10.
