A 23-year-old Maryland man will spend a year and four months of active time in jail for possessing more than 23 ounces of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possessing ammunition by a felon, and felony eluding.
Malachi Kenol Tull, of Camden Court in Salisbury, could have faced up to 20 years in prison. He was sentenced to five years for eluding with all but a year and four months suspended, and five years each for the marijuana and ammunition charges with all suspended. He will be on supervised probation for two years and good behavior for five years.
An officer witnessed a vehicle swerving on Fleming Road in the New Church area last Dec. 27, and attempted to pull it over. The vehicle fled to Vernon Road, which goes through a trailer park. The car lost control multiple times and drove through yards and ditches while residents were outside. When it finally stopped, the driver fled on foot.
Drugs and scales were found inside the car, according to evidence. A fingerprint on the ammo box showed Tull had handled it. A presentence report was ordered.
