A 33-year-old Cape Charles man was sentenced Monday in Northampton Circuit Court to three years of active time in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana and eluding police in September 2023.
Shawn Rodney Thomas Jr., of Lankford Highway, pleaded guilty to the crimes last October. He also agreed to an order of forfeiture for $7,445 and waived his 4th Amendment rights regarding search and seizure for five years.
Thomas was sentenced to 10 years with all but three years suspended for the cocaine charge. He was given a three-year suspended sentence for the marijuana charge, a four-year suspended sentence for felony eluding, and a 90-day suspended term for driving without a license. The sentences were set to run consecutively. Upon release, Thomas will be on supervised probation and good behavior for five years.
The defendant was seen throwing out more than 1,500 grams of marijuana, 141 grams of cocaine, thousands of dollars in cash, and a scale. He led police on an extensive pursuit in his vehicle and by foot.
In another case, 38-year-old Shantell Nicole Campbell, of Wilson Court in Cape Charles, took an Alford plea regarding a felony charge of embezzling more than $1,000 from the Cape Charles Shore Stop in 2023 while she was the manager. Judgment was withheld for a year. The charge will be amended to a misdemeanor if she remains on good behavior and pays court costs and restitution. The amount of restitution had not yet been determined.
