Virginia’s Second Congressional District will now be represented by a Democrat.   Elaine Luria narrowly defeated incumbent Congressman Scott Taylor 51 to 49% in yesterday’s election. Taylor was elected in 2016 defeating Randy Forbes.

The congresswoman elect released the following statement. “I am honored to once again answer the call to serve our country and look forward to representing Virginia’s Second District in Congress. I want to thank all of my supporters who worked so hard, and I want to thank Congressman Taylor for his service to our country and this district”.

Lauria had this to say Tuesday night.

“I have always been honest about what kind of leader I will be — an independent voice who will put country over party and lead in a bipartisan way.  While I will always look for common ground, while I will always be willing to listen, I will never compromise when it comes the Coastal Virginia values of decency, community, and service to country that we all hold dear.”
