A local group will once again make voting more accessible across the Eastern Shore. Earl Schrag, a member of the volunteer group, said the effort is aimed at ensuring that everyone who wants to register or cast a ballot has free transportation to do so.
The group has set up a system to receive and dispatch ride requests, is distributing fliers and cards throughout Accomack and Northampton Counties, and has drivers available to take residents either to their local registrar’s office for early voting and registration, or to their assigned precincts on Election Day.
Free rides will be available beginning September 19 and will continue through November 4, operating daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Community members may request transportation by calling 1-855-616-RIDE (7433).
The initiative is being promoted under the banner “Eastern Shore Votes,” with the message that voting is a right every citizen should exercise. Schrag expressed gratitude to local media outlets and community partners who have supported similar efforts in past election seasons and encouraged their continued cooperation to help give every voter a chance to participate.
