J. Spencer Morgan, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Accomack County and Jack A. Thornton III, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Northampton County, issued a heartfelt call to the community to join them in recognizing National Police Week, observed from May 11 to May 16, with May 15 designated as Peace Officer Memorial Day.

In a memorandum to local media, Thornton praised the dedication and sacrifices of local law enforcement officers who serve Northampton County and the broader Eastern Shore. He highlighted their daily exposure to harsh conditions, sleep deprivation, and danger, noting their readiness to make split-second life-and-death decisions while facing increased media scrutiny.

Thornton emphasized that these officers are driven by a commitment to community safety and justice, not financial reward, and urged residents to express gratitude for their service, even in moments of frustration like receiving a ticket.

“Please join me in saying ‘THANK YOU!’ to our local law enforcement,” Thornton concluded, celebrating the officers’ unwavering efforts to keep communities safe.

Morgan also commending law enforcement saying “Accomack County has some of the most dedicated and professional law enforcement officers in the area. Our partners in the Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police and Federal Officers continue to become more effective with each passing year. Their tireless devotion to service is deserving of recognition during this National Police week.”
