As Senator Lewis alluded to in his weekly update, he took the floor in the Senate in an attempt to kill Senate Bill 552, a bill to require our all crab pots sold in the Commonwealth and any peeler pot to be equipped with at least two marine biodegradable escape panels. The Bill also would require all crab pots in use by 2020 to be equipped with at least two marine-biodegradable escape panels. Senator Lewis called this bill burdensome regulations for our watermen. According to Senator Lewis, that the bill passed Agricultural, Conservation and Natural Resources committee surprised him greatly.
