Discussion of affordable housing opportunities, new businesses and more in Northampton County and the Eastern Shore always includes the need for public wastewater systems.

A solution to the issue may be closer than ever.

A meeting on Thursday, Aug. 15 in Exmore is designed to provide information for the public on a plan that would link areas from Nassawadox to Accomac with a wastewater line that would be linked to Onancock’s municipal plant.

The meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Exmore’s Town Hall, 3305 Main St., Exmore.

“This is a very important issue for everything in Northampton County,” said Spencer Murray, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, during a meeting on Tuesday.

Officials said the project “will serve as a catalyst for environmental sustainability and economic development.”

The lack of a sewer and wastewater service has been cited as a impediment to business opportunities on the Eastern Shore.

Onancock’s existing wastewater plant has additional capacity that can be used in the project.
