Despite last weekend’s inclement weather, Del-Mar-Va Council’s Southern Camporee entitled, Hometown Heroes “Prepared for Action” was a great success.  Nearly 200 scouts and leaders, from across Delmarva, camped at the Chincoteague KOA and participated in an emergency preparedness, first aid, safety, and law enforcement programs.  The camporee was held at the Chincoteague Island  KOA, Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company’s Carnival Grounds, and the U.S. Coast Guard Station.

Over sixteen agencies supported and participated in the camporee program including, Accomack County Department of Public Safety, Accomack County Sheriff Office K-9 Unit, American Red Cross, Atlantic Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Chincoteague Emergency Medical Services, Chincoteague Police Department, Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, Chincoteague Island KOA, NASA Protective Services, National Park Service, The Pony Express of Chincoteague Transportation, Virginia Department of Forestry, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Blackwater NWR, Chincoteague NWR, Great Dismal Swamp NWR).
