High wind and Coastal Flood warnings are up for the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia this weekend.

High wind warnings are posted beginning at 7 AM Saturday morning and continuing until 6 PM Sunday.  Winds are expected to be from the northeast at 25-35 mph gusting to 50 mph.  The heavy northeast winds will generate high tides on both the bay and seasides.

Minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected both days. One foot of inundation is expected Saturday morning with more moderate flooding approaching 1.5 ft or 2 ft Saturday night and Sunday. Areas that usually flood during storms can expect flooding this weekend.  High tides on the bayside will range from approximately 11 a.m. at Cape Charles to 2:30 p.m. in the Saxis area on Saturday and approximately one hour later on Sunday during the daylight hours. On the Seaside high tides will be between 9 AM  and 11:30 PM on Saturday and approximately one hour later on Sunday.  Tides could block some low lying roads on both the bay and seasides all weekend.  Both the Saxis and Chincoteague causeways could become inundated during high tide periods.  Motorists are urged to avoid areas with flooded roads if possible.

Citizens are urged to secure outdoor loose items and drive very carefully during windy conditions.
