At approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday a high speed chase was initiated  on a red Honda Pilot vehicle in Accomack County.  The Accomack County Sheriff’s Department, the Virginia State Police, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Police  and other police agencies pursued a southbound vehicle during the chase.  It began in Accomack County through the Onley area.  The vehicle then sped  south into Northampton County where the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department joined the chase which continued into Northampton at speeds of 85 mph.   The chase proceeded South past the Cape Charles Intersection.  The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Police set up spike strips on Fisherman’s Island but the driver was able to to avoid them.

A second set of spikes was deployed at the entrance to the north tunnel. The spikes punctured two tires but the vehicle proceeded to go through the tunnel and the vehicle began to slow down after exiting the tunnel and was stopped at approximately 11:15 pm on the bridge.  The Accomack and Northampton Sheriff’s departments assisted by the State Police and by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Police were able to take the driver into custody.

No injuries were reported.
