A line of severe thunderstorms dumped more than 4 inches of rain on parts of the central Eastern Shore Saturday, while other areas received considerably less.

The heaviest rain fell between Hopeton and Painter. Accomac recorded 4.5 inches, while areas around Onancock received as much as 4.7 inches.

A power outage was reported in the Texaco Town area, along with scattered outages elsewhere.

Rainfall totals dropped sharply farther south. Exmore received 1.7 inches, while Eastville recorded only 0.15 inches. Northern Accomack County received approximately half an inch.

Thirty-day rainfall totals now stand at approximately 2.20 inches on the northern Eastern Shore, 4.89 inches in Accomac, 5.20 inches in Onancock and 2.63 inches in Exmore. Eastville and Cape Charles have each recorded about 1.81 inches.

Because much of the rainfall came from localized thunderstorms, totals may vary considerably from one community to another.
