The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, warning of dangerously high heat index values across the Eastern Shore.

Forecasters expect heat index values to climb as high as 108 degrees, driven by a combination of soaring temperatures and high humidity. The advisory covers central, eastern, south-central, and southeastern parts of Virginia, putting both Accomack and Northampton Counties at risk for heat-related illnesses.

Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Recommended safety measures include drinking plenty of fluids, remaining in air-conditioned spaces, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and checking on elderly neighbors, young children, and other vulnerable individuals and animals.

The advisory underscores ongoing concerns during a broader stretch of hot, humid weather affecting the Mid-Atlantic region this week.
