The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Accomack and Northampton Counties, in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, July 25.
Forecasters warn that heat index values are expected to reach between 105 and 109 degrees during the afternoon hours. The combination of high temperatures and humidity could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations and those spending extended time outdoors.
Residents are urged to take precautions, including drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned spaces, avoiding direct sun exposure, and checking on relatives and neighbors—especially the elderly and those without air conditioning.
The advisory is part of a broader warning affecting much of southeastern and eastern Virginia. Local emergency officials recommend limiting outdoor activity during peak heat and ensuring pets have adequate water and shade.
