It was 36 degrees at noon on Saturday, February 22 at the Cape Charles Beach front as several volunteers and bystanders lined up to take plunge into the frigid Chesapeake Bay.
This year’s Celebrity Dipper for the Habitat for Humanity’s February Freeze was Eastern Shore Rural Health CEO Jeanette Edwards, who announced at the event they had cracked the $100,000 mark, her personal goal, in this year’s fundraising event.
Held annually, the event includes fundraising teams which compete for top prizes, the proceeds all go to building houses for residents of the Eastern Shore. This year’s top youth team was Montessori Schoo of Franktown. The Top Adult Team was the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department, the 2nd Place Youth Dipper was Bryce Brady and the 1st Place Youth Dipper was Lian Rodrgiuez, who won a brand new iPad.
“I just want to thank everyone who supported this,” said Edwards. “I love all of you.”
When asked what she was going to do after the dip she replied, “I’m not going to tell you.”
The Habitat’s Brews and BBQ event, usually held the Friday before the Freeze, was postponed one week due to this week’s snow event. Tickets are still available.
