According to Keith Privett of the Health Department, the swimming ban at Guard Shore remains in effect.  The ban was put in effect last Tuesday and samples collected throughout last week showed that the bacteria count was much higher than the quality standard set by the state for safe swimming.

Privett said that it is very unusual for swimming restrictions to last more than one day but the continued high bacteria count has extended the ban in this case.  Privett said samples will be taken Tuesday to determine if the beach can be reopened.
