A Greenwood man wanted in connection to a murder investigation in Bridgeville was arrested on drug charges in Virginia and is awaiting extradition back to Delaware.
According to Delaware State Police, around 1:40 p.m. Thursday, January 25, troopers were notified that a victim suffering from a gunshot wound had been dropped off at the emergency room at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.
When troopers arrived, they were informed that the victim, Tavyon M. Sykes, 18, of Greenwood, had died. The shooting reportedly occurred at the intersection of Newton Road and Adams Road in Bridgeville.
On January 26, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, Jared C. Mitchell, 31, of Greenwood, for 1st degree Murder, two counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Reckless Endangering, and two counts Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited.
The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit received information on Wednesday that the U.S. Marshals Task Force apprehended Mitchell at a home in Horntown, Virginia.
With the assistance of the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office and the Eastern Shore Drug Task Force, a search warrant was executed at the home where authorities say drug evidence was recovered.
Mitchell remains in custody in Virginia on drug charges and a fugitive warrant, pending his extradition back to Delaware. The case continues to remain under investigation.
