Governor Ralph Northam began his weekend on the Eastern Shore in Cape Charles Friday morning to celebrate the 14 new businesses that have opened in the town in the last year.

Proceeding down Mason Avenue in a golf cart driven by Steve Bennett, Northam stopped at each businesses, spoke with the owners and gathered guests for a while before cutting a ribbon for each and posing for pictures.

The first business was Cape Charles Cab, Cart and Carriage. Northam then proceeded to the Love Sign, the Northampton Hotel, Buskey Cidery on the Bay, Mason Avenue Furniture Exchange, Table and Tonic, Cape Charles Distillery, Cape Charles Candy Company, Voyager, Zest, Tim’s Place and Peach Street Convenience Store, Peach Beach Shaved Ice Shack, and Hope’s Harbor Hair.

Culminating at the Cape Charles Brewery, Mayor Smitty Dize was first to speak and he reflected on the last several years in Cape Charles:
