The electric cooperatives of Virginia, Maryland, & Delaware are proudly hosting Girl Power, a one-day, hands-on energy career experience designed for high school girls interested in exploring careers in the electric utility industry.
This year’s Girl Power Eastern Shore Camp will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Electric Cooperative Training Center in Salisbury, Maryland.
The event introduces students to a variety of exciting and high-demand careers, including:
- Line crew operations
- Substation maintenance
- Advanced metering and smart grid technology
- Fiber broadband installation service
- Other technical and field-based energy careers
Participants will engage in both classroom and outdoor activities led by experienced instructors. They’ll learn about workplace safety, try climbing a utility pole, and even operate a bucket truck. In addition, students will meet one-on-one with utility Human Resources professionals to review resumes and discuss interview tips. Community college advisors will also be on-site to answer questions about education and training pathways.
Expanding opportunities for women in energy, particularly in operations and linework, remains a key industry focus. These roles often serve as a foundation for future leadership positions within electric cooperatives and other utility organizations.
Visit vmdaec.com/girl-power-camp/ or search “Girl Power” on anec.com to register. Registration closes Friday, September 26. Girl Power Eastern Shore Camp is open to all high school aged girls and is free for participants.
