Virginia lawmakers convened to address Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s vetoes and amendments, rejecting most of his 205 budget changes. Democrats, who control both chambers, blocked Youngkin’s efforts to trim state spending and redirect funds, accepting only 33 of his revisions. Key budget provisions upheld included increased public school support and a first-time homebuyer program.

Youngkin vetoed 158 bills, preventing Democrats from reviving past legislative efforts. Though lawmakers didn’t override his vetoes due to the required two-thirds majority, they focused on passing budget-related measures with a simple majority.

Among rejected amendments were Youngkin’s proposals to delay oversight on pharmacy benefit managers and postpone eliminating personal property taxes for the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The governor now has a month to finalize decisions on the remaining bills.
