A fundraiser to help cover expenses is underway to assist the family of a 17-year-old Chincoteague High School student, who died about a week after being in a devastating traffic accident earlier this month.
Jeffery Ray Lewis Jr. was flown to a Baltimore hospital with several critical injuries from a crash on Chincoteague Road on Aug. 2. Despite multiple emergency surgeries, including the amputation of his left leg, he suffered severe brain trauma. After a hard-fought battle, he “gained his angel wings” on Aug. 10.
Donations are being accepted to cover travel, lodging, medical costs, and to set a proper memorial for the days ahead as the family grieves this unimaginable loss. To contribute, visit https://angelink.com/fundraiser-public/41853519-e80d-4b4b-984f-a233ad0c6652
Lewis was a much-loved member of the island community. In his final act of generosity, he became an organ donor, giving other families the gift of hope and life.
More than $13,000 of the $75,000 goal has been reached so far. The fundraiser was set up by Jeffery’s aunt, Jenny Kelso Hagler.
