Fugitive wanted in Northampton County murder case arrested

A fugitive wanted in connection with a deadly Northampton County shooting has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Authorities said 21-year-old Levontay Jumarion Johnson was arrested shortly before noon Thursday in the 16000 block of Seaside Road in Cape Charles by the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, Norfolk Division.

Johnson was wanted on charges of premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, distribution of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm while distributing a controlled substance.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, the charges are connected to a double shooting that occurred January 9, 2025, at the intersection of Pauline Street and Seaside Road in Eastville.

Virginia State Police previously reported that the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office contacted state police at approximately 7:43 p.m. that night to investigate a shooting incident in Eastville. When troopers arrived, they found one male victim suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries.

A short time later, state police received another report that a second male victim had been taken by family members to the EZ Stop, formerly Shore Stop, in Nassawadox. That victim also had serious, life-threatening injuries.

Both victims were flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment. One of the victims, identified by state police as 22-year-old Vantrell C. Williams, of the 1400 block of Harwood Street in Richmond, later died from his injuries. The second victim was injured.

At the time of the original investigation, state police said the shootings appeared to have occurred simultaneously at the same location and were believed to be isolated, with no ongoing danger to the general public.

Investigators with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Chesapeake Division requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force on May 29 in locating and apprehending Johnson. CARFTF specializes in locating violent fugitives.

Authorities said Johnson was arrested without incident. He is being held at the Eastern Shore Regional Jail.

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force was established in June 2004 and has partnership agreements with more than 100 federal, state and local agencies. The task force has eight fully operational offices and has arrested more than 111,000 fugitives.
