Residents and visitors heading to Onancock this weekend will find plenty of opportunities to celebrate history, music, and life on the water during the Onancock Sails Forward festivities.

Burnham Guides is offering guided kayak tours of Onancock Creek, giving participants a chance to explore the area’s scenic waterways while learning about the creek’s rich history and natural environment. The tours cost $55 for adults and $30 for children under 15. Kayak and paddleboard rentals will also be available daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those who want to experience the waterfront on their own.

The weekend also features Onancock’s popular Second Friday celebration, with local shops and art galleries extending their evening hours. Visitors can enjoy live music, wine tastings, guest artists, dining, and shopping throughout town. The event is sponsored by the Onancock Business and Civic Association and participating businesses.

Friday evening entertainment includes a Brasswinds Band concert from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Historic Onancock School Pavilion.

History enthusiasts can attend “The Darling and the Daring: Revolutionary Love Stories from Virginia’s Eastern Shore” at the North Street Playhouse from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

And as part of America’s 250th anniversary observance, the Roseland Theatre will host a special screening of “The Patriot” Friday night beginning at 7 p.m.

For more information and event registration, organizers encourage visitors to check local event websites before attending.
