Fire temporarily closes Northampton County Transfer Station

A fire at the Northampton County transfer station late last night and early this morning damaged equipment and has temporarily halted operations.

According to Janice Williams, Deputy County Administrator for Northampton County, a road tractor and trailer that were sitting on the scale inside the transfer station building burned in the incident. Until the equipment is cleared, the facility cannot accommodate incoming waste.

County officials anticipate the building could reopen as soon as tomorrow.

Williams thanked the public for their patience and understanding as the county works to restore operations.
