Fire reported at Tyson Foods Rendering Plant

At approximately 4:25 a.m. Sunday morning, units from Atlantic, Saxis, Oak Hall Rescue, Greenbackville, Bloxom, Parksley, Onancock, New Church, Chincoteague, Pocomoke, and Wallops responded to a report of a fire at the Tyson Foods rendering plant in Oak Hall. First responders reported heavy smoke and flames inside the building. Everyone working at the time of the fire was evacuated safely.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours, with units beginning to return to service around 6:45 a.m. The full extent of the damage and the cause of the fire are currently under investigation.

Fire units returned to the rendering plant at 9:16 Sunday morning to investigate reports of a flare up.
