The Farmers Almanac is out with the winter weather forecast for the Atlantic Corridor.

The area of their Atlantic Corridor runs from Boston to Norfolk and mostly east of I-95.  While last year’s forecast of some snow events did not materialize for our area, this year’s outlook is a little more benign.  For our area, the Almanac predicts that November will be five degrees above normal.  December, January and February and March will all be near normal. Precipitation is expected to be below normal in December, January and February but above average in March.

The Almanac predicts a possible snow storm the last week of December and at the end of February.

However Direct Weather on YouTube is expecting more snow with several snow events.  Their forecast is predicting our area to be affected by several storms.  They cite the La Nina weather event in the mid-Pacific as the controlling factor that will allow more cold air to spill into our area than last year.  Last year there was a scarcity of snow, even in areas that usually record 100 inches or more during a season.  DW says that the shift from the EL Nino pattern last winter to the La Nina this year will result in colder air reaching the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states, increasing the possibility of at least some snow on the Eastern Shore.

Please remember that there could be some changes as the winter progresses. Time will tell which forecast wins out in the end.
