An explosion damaged the PNC Bank in Monday morning Onley, blowing out portions of the building’s walls and a window facing the parking lot, according to Accomack County Sheriff Todd Wessells.

“It looked like a bomb went off,” Wessells said. “There was a little explosion. It blew out the walls and blew out the window to the parking lot.”

The Virginia State Police Bomb Squad was called to investigate and confirmed that an explosion occurred. Investigators are working to determine whether it was caused by an electrical surge or something else inside the building.

Wessells said investigators have found no indication of criminal activity.

“It appears to be accidental,” the sheriff said. “We are still investigating.”
