A 28-year-old Exmore man was given the maximum term of 15 years in prison Tuesday in Northampton Circuit Court for two counts of eluding police in 2020 and not showing up for court a year later.
All but six months of the term were suspended for Jose Luis Corchado. He spoke through a Spanish interpreter via a video chat during the proceeding, so he could enter his guilty pleas and. understand what was being said. Corchado will be on supervised probation for a year and good behavior for four years.
Counts of abduction by force and six misdemeanor offenses were not prosecuted and were part of a plea-bargaining agreement.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Jack Thornton said an Eastville officer was on Cherrydale Drive when the defendant passed him in a Ford truck that was going at an undetermined high rate of speed. When a deputy saw him in Nassawadox, he was going 64 miles per hour coming around a bend in the road, and later was clocked going 93 mph in a 55-mph zone.
