ES Rural Health celebrates successful Be Well Block Party

Close to 500 people joined Eastern Shore Rural Health System, Inc. for a day of wellness at the second annual Be Well Block Party Saturday Aug. 2 in downtown Parksley. Almost 60 community partners joined Eastern Shore Rural Health for the half-day event featuring preventative health resources, health screenings, healthy activities and other resources. A highlight of the event was a healthy cooking demonstration by Reality TV Chef Tiffany Derry, best known as a fan-favorite on Bravo’s “Top Chef” and a Novo Nordisk Host. Ingredients for her recipe were provided to 150 families via the Foodbank of Southeastern VA and Eastern Shore’s 757 Mobile Market – Rural Health’s staff sponsored the cost of the donated food.

Rural Health and participating community partners provided almost 200 health screenings to community members and connected them with essential resources. Other highlights include more than 140 community members exploring Accomack County Public School’s Book Bus; Shiloh Baptist Church providing almost 100 children with school supplies; Eastern Shore Community Services Board distributing approximately 50 harm reduction kits; and Aledade sharing advance care planning with more than 100 community members.
